"Mapping Migration Memories" aimed to serve social sustainability by preserving local ecological wisdom and traditional knowledge. Historically, the Qatari relationship to land use was seasonal and climate-based. By actively gathering the memories of migration, this research sought to maintain and honor these traditions.

The "Mapping Migration Memories" project was primarily showcased through a series of short documentary films. These films were presented at prestigious venues and events in China, Richmond, USA, and Qatar. The main documentary, a comprehensive portrayal of the project, premiered in Qatar at the Msheireb Museums. This special screening took place in an open-air setting, adding a unique and immersive dimension to the viewing experience.
The premiere event in Qatar was graced by the presence of VIP guests, including notable figures from the cultural, academic, and diplomatic communities. Their attendance underscored the significance of the project and its contributions to preserving and celebrating Qatar's rich cultural heritage. The outdoor screening at Msheireb Museums provided an ideal backdrop, aligning with the project's themes of connection to the land and historical migration paths. The event fostered a sense of community and engagement, highlighting the importance of preserving intangible cultural practices through modern storytelling methods.

"Mapping Migration Memories,” an exhibition by (IN)>Tangible Lab, opened to the public at Company House in Msheireb Downtown Doha on Wednesday, November 22.
"Mapping Migration Memories" was the result of a multi-year research project developed by (IN)>Tangible Lab, part of the Institute for Creative Research.
The exhibition gathered and used existing archived and recorded memories, photos, films, and oral histories to capture the historical biannual nomadic movements between the desert and the sea in Qatar.
Embarking on two expeditions to the desert, the artwork re-enacted migrations in the North and South, documenting their real locations and soundscapes.
"Mapping Migration Memories" emphasized the importance of intangible practices and oral traditions often lost in rapidly developing societies and acted as a testament to the passing down of generational knowledge and human perseverance.
Company House, which hosted the exhibition, encapsulated several of the themes explored in "Mapping Migration Memories." It served as a dedicated space for preserving the oral histories of Qatari pioneers while spotlighting the enduring significance of indigenous knowledge in shaping the development of modern Qatar.
(IN)>Tangible Lab aimed to capture and physically translate the vibrantly diverse intangible cultural heritage within Qatar through interdisciplinary lenses. The research and design cluster brought together designers, artists, cultural scholars, scientists, and museum curators from VCU Richmond, partner institutions within Education City, and relevant external collaborators and researchers.
