The Lifeguard Tower project is a design and construction project that was undertaken to provide students with a practical experience in the fields of architecture and construction. The project involved the design and construction of a lifeguard tower that would be used at a local beach.
Design:
The design of the lifeguard tower was carefully considered to ensure it met the needs of the lifeguards who would be using it. The tower was designed to be tall enough to provide a clear view of the beach, with a wide base to provide stability. The tower was also designed to be easily accessible, with a staircase leading up to the observation deck.
The design of the tower also incorporated a number of safety features, such as handrails and non-slip surfaces on the stairs and observation deck. The tower was also designed to be durable and able to withstand the harsh coastal environment, with materials such as stainless steel and marine-grade plywood used in its construction.
Construction:
The construction of the lifeguard tower was a collaborative effort between students and instructors in the architecture and construction programs. Students were responsible for tasks such as measuring and cutting materials, assembling components, and installing fixtures and finishes.
Throughout the construction process, safety was a top priority, with students following established safety protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
