The desert life has woven itself deeply into the fabric of Qatari history, maintaining a profound influence on the daily rhythms of its inhabitants. A testament to their rich heritage, Qatari attire seamlessly integrates the traditional with the contemporary, showcasing a remarkable adaptability.
Drawing inspiration from the dance of fabrics with the wind, the artwork captures the essence of this symbiotic relationship, where garments sway gracefully to the desert's melodies, preserving their elegance and individuality. These flowing folds, like poetic verses, reflect the perpetual dialogue between clothing and the intense desert air, forming the very essence of the artwork.
As the wind caresses the cloth of men and women, it creates rapturous art pieces, each uniquely tailored to the specific characteristics of their attire. This intricate interaction served as the blueprint for the artwork, meticulously designed by studying the parameters of undulations and printing them with overlapping properties to ensure seamless cohesion.
Rooted in tradition, the project finds its muse in the timeless Qatari attire, the "Thobe and Abaya," symbols of national pride and cultural heritage. Despite the cosmopolitan nature of Qatar, the distinctive clothing serves as a beacon, effortlessly distinguishing Qatari individuals amidst the bustling streets.
These art pieces have embarked on a global journey, showcased in renowned exhibitions such as Circolo Del Design in Torino, Italy, Munlab in Cambiano, Rossana Orlandi during the Milano Design Week, and The Summer Gallery of Rossana Orlandi in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. Additionally, they graced M7 in Msheireb, Doha, during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Participating in the 2021 MFA On-the-Go Field Study at VCU Arts Qatar, Melting Pottery epitomizes the project's mission to foster connections between diverse cultures. My piece, "Thobe and Abaya," was selected to be part of Rossana Orlandi's special collection, featured prominently in her exhibition, symbolizing the convergence of tradition and innovation.
